1) Define the protection job before you pick the sleeve

Our round sling sleeve program is supplied as semi-finished tubular sleeve material in roll form, intended for downstream cutting and fabrication. Customization works best when we start from your real wear scenario—edge contact, sliding abrasion, repeated handling, and the duty cycle of your lifting operations.

What we clarify up front

  • Where the sleeve will take the most damage (edges, corners, rough surfaces, hooks, or dragging points)
  • Whether your end product is for round slings, webbing slings, or mixed fleets
  • Preferred sleeve build (single-layer vs double-layer / double-wall) and any special surface or abrasion requirement
  • Your fabrication method (cut-and-sew, special patterns, reinforcement zones) that will determine the final protection outcome

2) Fit and sizing: specify lay-flat width and inner size the right way

Sizing is the fastest way to make a great sleeve program—or an expensive one. We recommend defining lay-flat width (inner size) based on the sling body you need to protect, plus the allowance required for your fabrication approach and any reinforcement you add at high-wear zones.

  • Choose a lay-flat width that allows the sleeve to move into position without forcing it over the sling body
  • Confirm how the sleeve will be installed (sliding onto the sling vs assembled around the sling during fabrication)
  • If you need tighter fit for anti-bunching, validate it during sampling to avoid installation friction on the shop floor

For efficient quoting, we typically ask for the target lay-flat width range, the intended sleeve length(s) after conversion, and any special finish requirements.

3) Construction selection: single-layer vs double-layer vs double-wall

Different lifting environments punish sleeves in different ways. We usually match construction to the dominant failure mode: single-layer for general abrasion control, double-layer for heavier wear zones, and double-wall constructions for demanding, high-contact conditions where extra durability and safety margin are valued.
